In collaboration with Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press, the center issued the fourth volume of the series Qatar and Arab Gulf States in the Documents of the Indian Archive. it contains selections of the documents of the national Indian archive. These cover the period between 1882-1887 and consist of correspondence and reports prepared by British agents, political residents, sailors, tribe’s chiefs, and rulers of Gulf Sheikhdoms. The documents relate to facts and events that occurred in Qatar and its geographical surroundings. In all, they are sources that documents historical events.
The series also contains the communications exchanged between Sheikh Jasim and British officials, documents on Ottoman existence in Qatar and their preoccupation in politics and administration, and news and reports that represents Sheikh Jasim’s attitude towards the agreement concluded in 1868 between his father, Sheikh Mohamed bin Thani, and the British Government. It also contains correspondence related to visits by members of the British administrative staff in the Arabian Gulf to Qatar, and the conversations that took place between them and Sheikh Jassim about Qatar’s regional political position, in addition to news about the movements of some tribes.
The documents that make this volume, about 300 documents, are considered an important source for researchers and those who are interested in the history of the region. The center translates these documents and makes them available to the benefit of students and researchers who are the history of Qatar and Arab Gulf States.
