Zubdat Kashf al-Mamalik wa Bayan al-Turuq wal-Masalik in a Seminar at the Center

Doha

The Center organized a cultural salon featuring Professor Ayman Fouad Sayyid, who presented his latest critical edition titled “Zubdat Kashf al-Mamalik wa Bayan al-Turuq wa al-Masalik” by Gharas al-Din Khalil ibn Shahin al-Zahiri.

The lecturer explained that the edition was based on three previously unknown manuscript copies, highlighting the historical importance of the work, which has been published in two volumes and contains rich information on Mamluk-era Egypt.

He noted that the book is an abridgment of a larger work and was intended as a practical reference for administrative and political use. Its value is further enhanced by the author’s firsthand observations, given his experience in state administration and access to official documents.

The session concluded by emphasizing the scholarly significance of the book as a key source for understanding Mamluk history, particularly within the writings of the “Awlad al-Nas” historiographical tradition.
